Mamma Ada Award 2017 [ AWARDEE ADDRESS] | Vareethiah Konstantine.

"Instituting awards call for great vision, for such awards make a dent in the socio-cultural space. At the outset, an award provides for public recognition of noteworthy contributions to the society. It also serves as the elixir that invigorates the creative spirit of the awardee to attain new heights. An award is in fact, an expression of the larger expectations of the society."

Mamma Ada Award 2017

AWARD ACCEPTANCE ADDRESS

Very Rev. Fr. Maria Alphonse, the president of the First Edition of Mamma Ada Award, Very Rev. Fr. Stephano Ulevi and Dr. Roberto Marcori, both from Florence, Italy, distinguished guests of honour, revered members of the clergy,  nuns, special invitees, beloved fellow awardees and young awardies, esteemed office bearers of the Nanjil Career Academy and my young friends:

I deem it a matter of honour and privilege to be with you all on this memorable occasion of Mamma Ada Award Ceremony 2017 and to deliver this address on behalf of today's awardees.

I believe, what has brought me here is the set of choices I made in life - what I chose to do and what I chose to keep away from in public domain.

The contribution of the Catholic Church to the Tamil literary and cultural space can't be minimised. The great epic THEMBAVANI written by the Italian monk Constantine Joseph Beschi is an example. The Sri Lankan cleric Thaninayagam's works in recent times is yet another. Today, we are pleased to note that another Italian Catholic family has come forward to institute, among others, an warrd for the cause of education and culture in Tamil space. Fr. Stephano and  Dr. Roberto, you both deserve a standing ovation for the great vision and generosity.

The Diocese of Kottar, whose recent bifurcation lead to the birth of the Kuzhithurai Diocese, is well known in the Indian and Vatican  Churches for the reformative and path breaking initiatives. The successful reinvention of the concept of Basic Christian Community after Brazil and its consequential radiation throughout the Indian Churches is a case in point. Such credits wouldn't have been gained but for the creative works of think tanks like Fr. M.J. Edwin, Fr. Dionysius and Fr. Amirtharaj. Writers and trainers like Fr. Alphonse and Fr. Sevvatius also have set examples worth emulating.

The establishment of the Nanjil Career Academy (NCA), 'the launch of Young Scientists' Programme, Mamma Ada Library and the Mamma Ada Award are, preceivably, part of a great mission to groom future leaders in the domains of science and society. A Catholic mission of humanism in deed.

Instituting awards call for great vision, for such awards make a dent in the socio-cultural space. At the outset, an award provides for public recognition of noteworthy contributions to the society. It also serves as the elixir that invigorates the creative spirit of the awardee to attain new heights. An award is in fact, an expression of the larger expectations of the society. But most significantly, the largest benefit of such award presentations goes not to the awardee, but to the younger generation. For, it kindles the fire in future scientists and leaders.

The Mamma Ada Award is yet another clergy endorsement of  laity contributions to the Church. I look forward to the day when such awards transcend the walls of religion. For, I believe, no religion is greater than the cause of humanity.

Once again I record my appreciation for the good works done by the dream team of NCA, the authorities of the Kuzhithurai Diocese and not the least, the sponsors of this award.
Thank you one and  all.
